Gov. Ortega backs out relection bid in La Union

La Union governor Francisco “Pacoy” Ortega III has withdrawn his bid for re-election on Tuesday.

His daughter, Raphaela Veronica Ortega-David, who also withdrew her bid in the province’s first district as board member, substitutes the governor.

Both father and daughter filed their certificates of candidacy on October 1.

It was not yet clear if Gov. Ortega III will seek for another local post, though talk is rife that the political scion, who served as governor in 2016 when he succeeded his father, three-term governor Manuel Ortega and was reelected in 2019, would instead seek for a local post via substitution on Monday.
