Former Lagayan, Abra Mayor Jendricks Seares Luna was declared dead on arrival after being shot multiple times by unidentified assailants outside his home on Tuesday morning.
According to a report from the Police Regional Office – Cordillera, the 54-year-old was sitting at a hut in front of his residence in Barangay Dangdangla, Bangued, Abra, when four men riding two motorcycles arrived and opened fire.
The incident occurred at around 8:22 AM.
The suspects quickly fled in an unknown direction after the shooting.
Luna was rushed to a nearby hospital but was later pronounced dead on arrival.
The Philippine National Police has launched a dragnet operation to locate and arrest the suspects.
Luna previously served as mayor of Lagayan, Abra.
In the recent elections, he ran for a seat as a provincial board member but lost.
Authorities are still investigating the possible motive behind the attack.
