HAND, FOOT, AND MOUTH DISEASE CASES IN CORDILLERA, INCREASE

BY: JOSE ROBERT INVENTOR

Rashes on the hands, accompanied by fever, this is what the 9-year-old son of Rose experienced last year.

At first, they thought it was just an allergy. But as his condition worsened, they took him to the hospital, where it was confirmed that he had HFMD.

Rose feared for her child’s health, but after a week, he recovered.

DOH-Cordillera is now closely monitoring the resurgence of HFMD cases.

From January 1 to February 1, the agency recorded 171 cases, higher than the 101 cases reported during the same period last year.

DOH noted a clustering of cases in Benguet, Baguio, Ifugao, and Mountain Province, likely due to school and community transmissions.

Some schools, including this elementary school in Baguio, have implemented a “No Sharing of Water Bottles” policy to prevent transmission.

HFMD spreads through droplets from coughs and sneezes, contaminated objects, and contact with infected blisters or feces.

DOH advises anyone with symptoms like fever, mouth sores, sore throat, and rashes to seek medical attention immediately.
