Headline: Second meeting of PCPC and PIACAT-VAWC

The second meeting of the members of the Provincial Council for the Protection of Children (PCPC) and the Provincial Interagency Committee Against Trafficking and Violence Against Women and their Children (PIACAT-VAWC) was held last June 27, 2024.

The meeting was led by the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO) and the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Pangasinan Provincial Office.

At the said meeting, Social Welfare Officer III and GAD/Women Focal Person Evelyn Dismaya and Social Welfare Officer III Marycon Lian Bernardo, MSW the following:

● Creating resolutions that provide a supplemental budget for the children’s welfare programs not lower than one percentage of Internal Revenue Allotment (IRA).

● Preparation for the 2025 Works and Financial Plan.

● Requisition of the members of the Provincial Planning and Development Office (PPDO) to be a part of the Inter-Agency Monitoring Task Force (IMTF)

● Requisition of the members of Liga ng barangay President to be a part of LCAT-VAWC

● Creating of resolution in forming an ordinance for the Local Government Units (LGUs) concerning Republic Act 11313 also known as “Safe Space Act”.

● Updating the new members of PCPC PIACAT-VAWC, and others.

According to Ricky Dulay, DILG Local Government Operations Officer III, this kind of meeting is important to ensure that the LGUs are following and mandating the national laws.

Meanwhile, on the Assessment Result of the Local Committee on Anti-Trafficking and Violence Against Women and their Children Functionality that was represented by DILG LGOO II Jamie Ann Oficiar, she said that from 44 municipalities and 4 cities in the province, 46 of them got a ‘highly functional’, while 1 city received a ‘moderately functional’. The results are based on the 4 indicators which are the organization, meeting, policies, and accomplishments.

The said assessment will serve as an important tool to ensure that all the needed interventions will support the local government units to continuously fight the trafficking and violence against women and children.
