“If I didn’t have any errands, I wouldn’t have gone out,” said Flor Liberan, a resident.
With the long lines of vehicles in Baguio City, residents like Flor prefer to stay home.
She said it’s a hassle, especially now that traffic has worsened due to the Christmas rush.
“Yes, the traffic is heavy now, I’ll go back this afternoon,” she added.
According to the Baguio City Police Office (BCPO) – Traffic Enforcement Unit, the heavy traffic flow in the city began on the first day of December.
PLTCOL. Zacarias Caloy Dausen, Chief – Traffic Enforcement Unit of the BCPO, stated, “Before the long weekend, rush hour was only from 6:30 to 8 in the morning and started again at 7 in the evening.”
One of the heavily congested areas is the route to the Central Business District.
“You’ll notice that as early as 10 AM, vehicles are already lining up near SM for parking. This indicates that many tourists have arrived in Baguio City,” Dausen added.
To alleviate traffic, the Baguio City Police Office will open over 500 parking spaces in collaboration with local schools.
“Our plan is to request other schools because the central business district lacks parking spaces,” Dausen mentioned.
Traffic was also heavy from morning until noon on Marcos Highway, Kennon Road, and Naguilian Road.
Tourists are now flocking to attractions, especially Burnham Park.
