A small house was engulfed by fire early Friday morning in Barangay Loakan Proper, Baguio City.
Fire investigators are still determining the cause of the blaze.
At around 4:00 a.m., 33-year-old Christina Teodoro woke up feeling extreme heat inside her home.
Moments later, she discovered that her neighbor’s house, just a few meters away, was already burning.
“It was so hot, so my husband went outside, and we saw that the flames were already high,” she recalled.
Fortunately, their house was spared from the fire despite its proximity.
“Even when we were throwing water, it was difficult to put out the flames,” she said. “It only stopped when we continuously poured water and opened the tank above.”
According to the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), the fire broke out in a small shanty at Purok Central Magsaysay, Loakan Proper, around 4:00 a.m.
Firefighters responded immediately and declared the fire out by 5:00 a.m.
Investigators said the flames spread quickly since the house was made of light materials.
“There were lots of clothes inside, and the interior was mostly wood, so the fire consumed everything,” said FO3 James Agnad, BFP investigator.
The total cost of damage has yet to be determined, and the investigation continues to identify the exact cause of the fire.
Fortunately, the family residing in the burned house was unharmed.
