The husband who stabbed his wife to death on Christmas Day has surrendered to authorities after weeks in hiding, police said.

The suspect turned himself in on Sunday morning, January 4, after being fetched by Kalinga Police Provincial Office director Police Colonel Gilberto Fati-ig in Barangay Bunot, Paracelis, Mountain Province.

According to police, community elders and residents from the suspect’s hometown in Bangol helped convince him to surrender.

“He was persuaded by elders and people from his community to give himself up. He had been hiding for several days, and when his whereabouts became known, they convinced him to surrender,” said Police Captain Ruff Manganip, public information officer of the Kalinga Police Provincial Office.

The suspect is facing a murder charge after allegedly stabbing his wife six times inside their home in Barangay Agbannawag, Tabuk City, Kalinga, on Christmas Day.

Police said the suspect claimed he was intoxicated at the time of the incident.

“He said he had been drinking and that he had already reached his limit. But based on information from his relatives, he is also believed to be a jealous person,” Manganip added.

The suspect is currently detained at the Tabuk City Police Station.
