With the 2025 Palarong Pambansa just around the corner, the province of Ilocos Norte is intensifying its preparations for the national sporting event scheduled from May 24 to 31.
Simulation drills conducted by the Ilocos Norte Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) portrayed potential emergency situations, including stretcher evacuations and unconscious patients on the football field.
According to Marcel Tabaje of the PDRRMO, “We are making sure we’re ready for all possibilities, whether there’s ground shaking during the opening program or other emergency scenarios that could happen.”
The province is expecting at least 15,000 athletes and visitors to participate in the week-long sports event.
With the large influx of people, authorities are not only preparing for safety but also evaluating traffic flow, athlete security, and crowd management.
“We are coordinating with various government offices to ensure all preparations are in place for the Palarong Pambansa,” said PLTCOL Roldan Suitos, deputy provincial director for operations of the Ilocos Norte Police Provincial Office.
This year marks the 65th edition of the Palarong Pambansa, showcasing 24 regular sports disciplines under the theme Nagkakaisang Kapuluan.
