IMMEDIATE ASSISTANCE FOR THOSE AFFECTED BY TYPHOON KRISTINE IN PANGASINAN, DELIVERED BY THE PROVINCIAL GOVERNMENT

Due to the storm surge caused by Typhoon Kristine last week, residents along the coast and in flood-prone areas were severely affected, including seven barangays on Santiago Island in Bolinao, where some infrastructure was damaged.

According to Punong Barangay Gilbert Caampued of Barangay Salud, Bolinao, “Our total damage, ma’am, was really severe. About 22 houses had roofs destroyed, boats damaged, and our solar panels and power lines were heavily affected.”

In response, the provincial government quickly conducted a disaster relief operation to assist residents on Santiago Island.

Governor Ramon V. Guico III also personally visited the residents to check on their condition.

“I’m personally delivering this aid from the province of Pangasinan, hoping it can help, even just for a few days,” said Governor Ramon V. Guico III.

Governor Guico provided around 7,000 relief food packs to the residents in seven barangays.

In addition to relief goods, residents received free medical and health check-ups, along with medications, through the Government Unified Incentives for Medical Consultations, or the GUIConsult program.

The residents expressed heartfelt gratitude for the aid they received from the provincial government.

“Thank you, thank you for what you’ve given us. It’s a big help,” said Perla Clave, a resident from Barangay Victory.

“We’re grateful to the governor; he prioritized us. Thank you very much; we can’t repay this right now, as times are very hard, ma’am. This is really what we needed most,” said Evelyn Zamora Tique, a resident from Barangay Binabalian.

In the latest report from the Pangasinan Provincial Disaster Risk and Reduction Management Office (PDRRMO), over 1,800 evacuees from various evacuation centers in the province have received aid from the provincial government.

Although Typhoon Kristine heavily affected the province, with high tides coinciding with the storm along the coast, they are thankful that no lives were lost.

“We should thank our Almighty God because even though we were hit by such a strong typhoon, we are blessed that there were no casualties in Pangasinan,” Governor Guico mentioned.

Governor Guico also thanked the swift response of the provincial government staff, along with various agencies, LGUs, and volunteers.
