One of the tragedies that shook Loreto was the 7.7 magnitude earthquake, known as the 1990 Killer Earthquake.
Because of this, he is deeply grateful to have survived the disaster and to have reached 80 years old in 2025.
The same goes for 80-year-old Lolit.
Despite their age, they remain strong and mobile.
Individuals like them are called octogenarians, those who have reached 80 years old.
Upon reaching this milestone, they didn’t just receive greetings.
Today, February 26, they were given cash incentives from the government.
This is under Republic Act 11982, also known as the Centenarians Act of 2016, which grants incentives to octogenarians, nonagenarians, and centenarians.
A total of 27 octogenarians and nonagenarians received their cash incentives today in Baguio City.
As a result, many senior citizens have already submitted their applications for the incentive, but these will still be reviewed by the National Commission of Senior Citizens.
This is the first time a payout has been conducted for confirmed octogenarians and nonagenarians.

This year, the goal is to provide incentives to around 6,000 senior citizens in the Cordillera region.
