IS IT REALLY HEALTHY TO EAT EGGS EVERY DAY?

BY: VALERIE ANN DISMAYA

As summer approaches, many people are already planning to lose weight for their summer body goals!

One of the most popular weight-loss diets is keto, which avoids carbs like bread and rice.

But here, the question always arises—Is it okay to eat eggs every day?

Is it really bad for our bodies?

Or is it a superfood that should be part of our daily meals?

Eating eggs has long been a part of many people’s diets.

However, in the 1970s, concerns arose due to reports that eggs contain high cholesterol, which could lead to heart disease.

Because of this, many doctors and nutritionists advised limiting or avoiding egg consumption.

However, modern research has shown that eggs are not actually harmful to health—unless consumed excessively.

Experts say that the good cholesterol (HDL) found in eggs can even benefit the heart and is not the same as harmful trans fats that cause high blood pressure.

In 2018, a major study from Harvard Health provided evidence that there is no clear link between egg consumption and an increased risk of heart disease in healthy individuals.

This was also confirmed by the American Heart Association, stating that eating one egg per day is fine, as long as it is part of a balanced diet and not always paired with high-saturated-fat foods.

Eggs are a nutrient-dense food.

This means, they are rich in protein, vitamins, and minerals such as Vitamin B12, selenium, choline, and omega-3 fatty acids.

They are also low in calories, making them perfect for weight loss and calorie deficit.

In fact, many fitness experts say that eating eggs in the morning can help boost metabolism and keep you full for longer.

In other countries, there are dishes where eggs are the main ingredient, such as Japanese tamago, French omelet, and American scrambled eggs.

Meanwhile, in the Philippines, we are used to hard-boiled eggs, tortang talong, and silog meals.

However, many still say that egg consumption should be limited, especially when fried or combined with high-fat foods.

So, if you want to make sure eggs are good for you, include them in a balanced diet.

Just avoid frying them all the time or mixing them with processed food.
