JEEP LOST CONTROL, CRASHED INTO A TAXI, AND OVERTURNED; 22; INJURED; INCREASE IN ROAD INCIDENTS IN BAGUIO CITY

At around 6:00 AM today, February 5, a jeepney lost control and crashed into a parked taxi along Purok 10, Barangay Bakakeng Norte, Baguio City, before overturning.

Several residents witnessed the accident.

The jeepney driver, Ferdinand Aquino De Jesus, 55 years old, was driving downhill when he lost control.

According to the Baguio City Police Office, mechanical failure may have caused the accident.

All 22 passengers, along with the jeepney and taxi drivers, sustained injuries and were rushed to the hospital.

The jeepney driver may face charges for reckless imprudence resulting in multiple physical injuries and damage to property.

By 10:30 AM, the road was cleared, and traffic flow returned to normal.

According to Baguio City Police Office (BCPO) data, road accidents have already reached 100 cases as of January alone.

This is slightly higher than the 92 cases recorded in 2024 for the same period.

The most common cause of these accidents is mechanical defects.
