“Jueteng” bet collectors required of COVID-19 tests in Cagayan town

BAGUIO CITY (September 2, 2021)— Allacapan (Cagayan province) Mayor Harry Florida is requiring all bet collectors or agents of Small Town Lottery (STL) and other games of chances operating in his town, to undergo RT-PCR testing.

Florida gave the orders following reports that two bet collectors of the “Peryahan ng Bayan” purportedly operated by Globaltech Mobile Gaming Corp. were tested positive of Corona Virus Disease (COVID-19).

Contact tracing immediately began the other day to determine who were in contact with the two bet collectors in the past days.

Florida also earlier asked the manager of the Small Town Lottery in the area to require his employees and bet collectors to undergo mandatory RT-PCR testing. This after the Mayor also received a report that an STL bet collector, who was positive of the virus, recently died.

Although reports claimed bet collection of the STL and the “Peryahan ng Bayan” has slowed down in Allacapan, people are still betting but collection is being brought to other towns like Aparri and Lallo, also in Cagayan.

The PCSO Cagayan earlier disowned any sanctions on the operations of “Peryahan ng Bayan” and STL amid ECQ quarantine status of several Cagayan towns including Tuguegarao City and two more towns.

Florida appealed to the management of the STL and “Peryahan ng Bayan” to temporarily stop collecting bets and their operations, seen as a super spreader activity for COVID-19.
