‘Leni primes peoples trust, not entitlement as “must-be” trait for country’s leader’

Vice President Leni Robredo primed ‘trust from the people’ is something to be earned and not as an entitlement.

Robredo before Baguio City officials and employees after the flag rites Monday here in the start of her two-day semi-sortie in the highlands, she honored frontliners including the media awarded distinctions by Baguio City government recognizing their valuable contributions during the pandemic.

She is happy, the vice-president said, that Baguio City found a way to honor the people who should really take the credit for all the good things that have been happening. “Yung mga men and women who are doing the more difficult and often thankless jobs, na ngayong umaga ay naparangalan sila,” she noted.

The Vice President said that in sincerely serving the people, limitations should not be allowed to dictate such. She said that when she was first got elected in 2016, her office met many obstacles. One of which is having one of the smallest budgets in the entire bureaucracy.

“But what, what we have proven in the past five and a half years is that if we do not allow the limitations to get in the way of the work that we do, maraming magagawa” Robredo said. She said that her office first did is to repay the trust of the people. She recalled that one of her office’s first achievement is to get ISO certification for the Office of the Vice-President (OVP) and they were successful.

She also said they were succesful in making sure that her office get the highest approval rating from the Commission on Audit (COA). “Ang naging dahilan po noon because we were able to prove that we were serious with the, with the work that was–that we set ourselves to do, people started trusting us and they partnered with us along the way so that we can render service to our constituents,” Robredo said.

Robredo also stressed her office acknowledge what Baguio City has been doing in the fight against Covid-19. Baguio City Government, she said, is one of the best performing local governments units (LGUs) as far as contact tracing and vaccination is concerned.

Robredo proceeded to engagements at the University of the Cordilleras (UC) and to the University of Baguio (UB) then to the Philippine Military Academy on Tuesday as her side-engagements from her attending a wedding of her staff members-couple Tuesday here.
