MALACAÑANG, CLARIFIED THAT THE IMPEACHMENT COMPLAINTS FILED AGAINST VP SARA ARE NOT POLITICALLY MOTIVATED

Two impeachment complaints have been filed against Vice President Sara Duterte.

These complaints were submitted by several members of the Makabayan Bloc and other groups from different sectors.

The first impeachment complaint cites culpable violations of the Constitution, bribery, and graft and corruption as grounds.

The second complaint accuses her of betrayal of public trust due to issues involving the Vice President, including the alleged misuse of confidential funds amounting to 612.5 million pesos, disrespect towards congressional investigations, among others.

“We strongly endorse this complaint from our citizens. It is evident in the quad-comm investigation how funds were squandered,” said Rep. France Castro, House Deputy Minority Leader.

The House of Representatives previously stated that the impeachment complaints would follow a proper and fair process.

Reginald Velasco, House Secretary General, stated, “The House is committed to performing its constitutional duty with fairness. We assure the public that this will be conducted in adherence to the Constitution.”

Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin reiterated that the impeachment complaints filed in the House are initiatives of private citizens and not politically motivated. Their progression depends on the endorsement of House members, and the Office of the President has no involvement.

However, Congress is currently focused on investigating the ongoing issues concerning the Office of the Vice President.

The Makabayan Bloc remains hopeful that the impeachment complaints against Vice President Sara Duterte will move forward.

VP Sara had earlier stated that she anticipated the complaints and has accepted the possibility of being removed from office.
