“That’s really my opinion, this is not important, so waste time in it.”
This was President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s statement last week on allegations to impeach Vice President Sara Duterte.
This followed the circulation of a text message from the President advising Congress not to focus on VP Sara’s impeachment.
According to Reginald Velasco, Secretary General, House of Representatives, “It is crucial to underscore that an impeachment complaint is not a discretionary act for the House of Representatives but a constitutional obligation.”
While discussions have been ongoing in the House of Representatives.
“The Constitution prescribes clear steps to ensure fairness and adherence to the rule of law, including principles of due process,” Velasco added.
On Monday, December 2, the first impeachment complaint was filed by Akbayan Partylist and other groups in Congress.
The allegations include constitutional violations, graft and corruption, bribery, and more.
Yesterday, December 4, the Makabayan Bloc filed a second impeachment complaint against VP Sara for betrayal of public trust.
The President previously said this was a waste of Congress’ time and stated that he does not support any impeachment moves.

“What will happen even when somebody files an impeachment, nothing will come out of it. None of this will help improve a single Filipino life, as far as I’m concerned, it’s a storm in a teacup,” PBBM stated.
Executive Secretary Lucas P. Bersamin clarified that Malacañang had no involvement in the impeachment complaints filed against the Vice President.
