A 33-year-old technician died on the spot after being ejected from a speeding van that crashed into a flyover barrier in Baguio City early Saturday, March 15.

CCTV footage showed the vehicle speeding along the flyover near the BHG Compound at around 1:00 a.m. Moments later, debris—including the windshield and the victim himself—fell from the structure.

According to the Baguio City Police Office (BCPO), the impact of the collision caused the victim to be thrown out of the vehicle, landing in a garden below.

“He suffered severe injuries and fractures that led to his death,” said Police Major Marcy Grace Marron, BCPO’s public information officer.

Despite the fatal accident, the van continued moving until the 36-year-old driver abandoned it.

The suspect later surrendered to authorities, accompanied by his legal counsel, on the afternoon of the same day.

Initial investigations revealed that both the driver and the victim had come from a drinking session before the crash.

Authorities are still determining whether the victim was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident. The driver faces charges of reckless imprudence resulting in homicide.

The victim’s family has yet to decide whether to file additional charges against the suspect.
