BY: JOSE ROBERT INVENTOR

A man in Paoay, Ilocos Norte, died after being ejected into a river when his tricycle crashed into a concrete barrier on Sunday, March 23.

According to the Paoay Police, the driver lost control of his tricycle before it hit the barrier, causing him to be thrown into the river.

He sustained severe head injuries. Rescuers attempted to revive him, but he was declared dead on the spot.

Authorities reported that this was the 45th vehicular accident recorded in the province from January to March.

While this is a decrease compared to 95 incidents during the same period last year, police continue to monitor road safety.

“Human error, miscalculation, driving under the influence of alcohol, and overspeeding are common causes of these accidents,” said Major Sheryll Guzman, spokesperson of the Ilocos Norte Police Provincial Office.

Ilocos Norte Police Provincial Director Colonel Frederick Obar attributed the decrease in accidents to police checkpoints and intensified road safety measures.

Authorities are reminding the public to stay alert and follow traffic regulations to prevent further incidents.
