A casual drinking session turned deadly in Sitio Cabuaan, Barangay Napu, Badoc, Ilocos Norte on the morning of May 4, after a man was shot in the head by his drinking companion.

The suspect, identified as 47-year-old Michael Pajinag, allegedly shot 37-year-old Mark Anthony Galgalan during their gathering.

According to PCpt. Elison Pasamonte, Chief of Police of Badoc MPS, “The victim was just about to start drinking when the suspect arrived. He went to a nearby store and reportedly said, ‘I’m going to kill someone.’ Then he walked toward the group sitting under a tree and pointed his gun at them. The victim ended up getting shot.”

Initial investigations suggest the shooting may have been triggered by the suspect’s family problems. He was also reportedly under the influence of alcohol.

“The suspect admitted, both to the media and to the fiscal, that he didn’t mean to shoot the victim. But based on our investigation, he had family issues and was drunk. He took out his anger on someone,” Pasamonte added.

The suspect fled the scene on a motorcycle but was later arrested by authorities.

Galgalan was rushed to the hospital but was declared dead shortly after.

Pajinag is now under police custody and will face murder charges.
