“Maring” kills 3 kids in Benguet, buries alive four in Baguio City

Three children were buried alive when their house was hit by a landslide in Central Purok Bubbog, Ambiong, La Trinidad, Benguet 8:00 PM Tuesday.

Three kids were reportedly eating dinner with their parents when a landslide buried their house.

Responders were able to rush them to the hospital but the children expired. The kids were two, six and eight years old.

In Baguio City, responders rushed to searh for a grandfather and his two grandchildren and another individual at Marosa Alley, Dominican Mirador Barangay.

The City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (CDRRMC) reported the landslide hit at around 7:30 PM Tuesday but was only reported at around 9:30 PM.

As of 6:00 AM of October 12, 2021, one of the four was rescued alive and the remaining three are still missing.

City Government personnel will be using its newly procured life detector to search for the remaining victims.

As of 5:30am of October 12, 2021, 12 families composed of 56 individuals are staying at the CDRRMC Office evacuation center here.
They are from City Camp Central Happy Homes Old Lucban and Irisan barangays.

As of 4 am Oct. 12, the CDRRMC operation center has reported 10 landslide or soil erosion incidents, five flooding incidents, four fallen and leaning trees and posts and one damage to property.

Baguio City Mayor Magalong and City Administrator Bonifacio Dela Peña led an early morning inspection of the barangays to assess the situation.

In La Trinidad, Benguet, personnel of the municipal government are still clearing the road of muds and rocks along KM 3 and KM 4 (Halseman Highway). The area was unpassable Tuesday evening after a flashflood carrying mud from atop a hill earlier “developed” for a subdivision hit.
