After wresting the Philippine Boxing Championship bantamweight strap in December 4 last year, Ifugao pride Carl Jammes Martin eyes a second belt.
The Wonderboy from Hingyon, Ifugao hopes to bring home the World Boxing Association – Asia super bantamweight belt when he faces Ronnie Baldonado on March 12 at the Elorde Sports Center in Sucat, Paranque.
On his Facebook wall followed by more than 73,000 netizens, Martin announced: “Fight is on! It’s official. March 12, 2002 @ Elorde Sports Center.
Martin comes off from a unanimous win in December 4 last year when he stopped the veteran Mark Anthony Geraldo also at the same gym for the latter’s PBC super bantamweight title.
The 22-year old earned the nod of the three judges as he outboxed Geraldo, who beat long time world champion Jerwin Ancajas earlier in his career, with a superb 117-111, 115-113, 115-113 card all in favor of the former, one of the biggest prospects in Philippine boxing now.
With the win, Martin improved to 18-0 win-loss card, 15 of the victories came by way of knock out making him one of the biggest punchers in the country.
Baldonado, meanwhile, sports a 15-2-1 (win-loss-draw) card, nine of his wins came in via KO.
The Carmen, Cotabato del Norte native last fought on September 7, 2019 losing to Ronnie Magsalin via majority decision.
Prior that, Baldonando was on a five bout win streak after suffering his first defeat to Japanese Kosei Tanaka on March 1, 2018.
Baldonado had his debut on March 31, 2015 with a win over Baltazar Susas via technical knowckout. He followed that up with a unanimous win over Rollie Bersabal before logging two KO wins over John Lee Gallesposo and Mark Marticio also that year. He ended the year with a draw with Glenne Calacar.
Baldonado had a good year in 2016 when he won all his fights before a better 2017 when he won the interim World Boxing Organization Oriental flyweight title with a TKO win over Yimming Ma on April 4 that year.
He retained the title with a KO on Iwan Zoda on September 9, 2017
However, he lost to the Japanese Tanaka on March 31 the following year.
