Archery enthusiasts from various regions across the country will showcase their skills in the sixth Mayor’s Archery Cup in Bacnotan, La Union from May 16 to 18.
The event is part of the municipality’s celebration of this year’s Diro Festival and will bring together 14 archery clubs from different provinces, including participants from Baguio and Nueva Vizcaya.
Athletes began warming up and practicing on May 15 in preparation for the three-day competition.
Archery is a sport that demands precision, focus, and discipline.
Competitors use a bow and arrow to hit targets, with higher scores awarded the closer the arrow lands to the center.
Historically, archery was used for hunting in Africa and later evolved into a formal sport.
In the Philippines, it was officially recognized as a sport in 1961 with the establishment of World Archery Philippines, Inc.
