A modernized jeepney driver was injured after his vehicle collided with a passenger bus along the Manila North Road in Barangay Salapungan, Gerona, Tarlac on Monday, June 10.
The crash scattered debris across the road, and several passengers reported dizziness, prompting immediate medical attention.
According to Gerona Police, the accident occurred around 9:00 AM.
The bus, en route from Quezon City to Bolinao, Pangasinan, was parked on the roadside when the jeep, traveling toward Moncada, suddenly swerved.
“The jeep drove straight into a blind spot and tried to avoid another vehicle entering Nature’s Spring. When the driver swerved left, he hit the Solid North bus, which was already parked in the outer lane,” explained PMSgt. Mark Ryan Cudal, investigator from the Gerona Municipal Police Station.
The jeep continued to move before finally stopping at the roadside.
Its 49-year-old driver and six passengers were taken to the hospital.
All except the driver, who sustained a head injury, were later discharged.
The 28-year-old bus driver and his roughly 30 passengers were unharmed.
Police clarified that the bus was stationary when the crash occurred.
“The PUV swerved left to avoid another truck that had already crossed. Unfortunately, it still hit the Solid North bus, which had come to a complete stop,” Cudal said.
Authorities noted that the area is accident-prone due to speeding vehicles.
“Our motorists should slow down, even if the road is wide,” Cudal advised. “They need to be aware of what’s in front, behind, and beside them, not just drive carelessly.”
Representatives from both vehicles have already spoken and may settle the matter privately.
