To ensure faster and better medical services, the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) has approved 1,224 additional positions for the Philippine General Hospital (PGH), following the directive of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.
Health remains a top concern for many Filipinos, including taxi driver Aljin Locano, who regularly visits health centers when he feels unwell. “You can’t avoid it, especially when the weather changes from cold to extremely hot. That’s when I start coughing,” he shared.
Despite his efforts to stay healthy, Locano admits that seeking public health services is the only option for him. “Of course, we haven’t experienced becoming rich,” he said.
Recognizing the need for more health workers, the Marcos administration is strengthening the country’s healthcare system by increasing manpower in public hospitals.
This includes the recent DBM approval of over a thousand new positions at PGH.
“Following the directive of the President to expand manpower so more Filipinos can receive services, these new positions were approved,” said Palace Press Briefer Officer Usec. Claire Castro. “Many Filipinos rely on PGH because of its affordable services.”
The deployment of new employees at PGH is set to begin in the third quarter of the year.
The government also plans to expand the hiring of medical personnel in other public hospitals nationwide, aiming to protect the health of all Filipinos.
