The second quarter of 2023 marked the start of the Green Canopy Program by the provincial government of Pangasinan, led by Governor Ramon V. Guico III.
From February 2023 to October 2024, over 300,000 trees have been planted across various towns in the province.
The program aims to plant one million trees and raise awareness among Pangasinenses about the importance of protecting the environment.
It has been further expanded to various towns in the province, such as Barangay Malico in the town of San Nicolas.
Here, representatives from different departments in the capitol joined forces to plant over 500 seedlings of native trees such as Narra, Langil, and Bitao.
“We are grateful to the provincial team for their support, especially for the seedlings. This is a big help for the barangay, particularly in protecting our roads,” said Sandy Segundo of Barangay Malico, San Nicolas.
Cutting down trees is strictly prohibited in Barangay Malico.
Tourists are also reminded to keep the area clean.
“The barangay and municipality have ordinances. Every week, we conduct a cleanup drive. All barangay officials, CDO, and DHW participate,” Segundo stated.
The said activity was led by the Provincial Population and Livelihood Development Office, the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist, the PDRRMO, Barangay officials of Malico, the PNP, and the Philippine Army.
