The mother and daughter tandem of Sandra Eriguel and Stefanie Ann Eriguel, both medical doctors, filed their certificates of candidacy (COCs) seeking re-election as representative of La Union’s Second District and mayor of Agoo town, respectively, vowing to sustain the progress and development in their localities.

Rep. Eriguel, provincial chair of Lakas-CMD in La Union, filed her COC on October 1, 2021 for her third term as representative of the Second District of La Union, while daughter Stefanie, provincial chair of National Unity Party (NUP), filed her COC on October 8.

The filing of COCs by the Eriguels aims to continue the outstanding brand of public service by family in the last 15 years, which transformed the Second District of La Union into a hub of progress and development in Northern Luzon.

Sandra Eriguel, a medical doctor, is one of the authors of Republic Act No. 11509, or the Doktor Para sa Bayan Act, which established a medical scholarship and return service program for deserving students in state universities and colleges or in partner private higher education institutions.

Among the legislations she pushed in Congress include RA 11562 which expanded the Rosario District Hospital and RA 11559 which upgraded the Naguilian District Hospital.

She is also the principal author of RA 11484 which converted the road from Anduyan in Tubao, La Union to San Pascual, Tuba in Benguet into a national road.

Rep. Eriguel is currently the chairperson of Inter-Parliamentary Relations and Diplomacy Committee of the House of Representatives and vice-chairperson of the Committee of Health and Foreign Affairs Committee.

Under her “Serbisyong Eriguel” program, more than 6,700 people in La Union’s Second District benefitted from the Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced (TUPAD) program from 2019 to 2021; 2,261 individuals in crisis situation received help; 3,534 indigent patients obtained medical services; hundreds of beneficiaries learned new skills under technical and scholarship programs; and hundreds of farmers and fishermen were provided assistance.

She also pushed for various infrastructure projects in the Second District including roads and bridges, farm to market roads, multi-purpose buildings, school buildings, covered courts, flood control projects and shore protection projects.

La Union’s Second District is a fast-growing area that consists of Agoo, Aringay, Bagulin, Bauang, Burgos, Caba, Naguilian, Pugo, Rosario, Santo Tomas and Tubao.

While the younger Eriguel is seeking her third term as mayor of Agoo, a first-class municipality considered as the “premier capital” as well as health, education, trade, commerce, industry, sports, culture and tourism center in southern La Union.

Under Stefanie’s leadership, Agoo has received numerous awards and recognition for its commendable performance and accomplishments, including the Seal of Good Local Governance in advancing the principles of accountability and transparency in local government from the Department of Interior and Local Government.
