BY: VANESSA BUGTONG

A 19-year-old motorcycle rider suffered injuries after colliding with a passenger jeepney along Loakan Road in Baguio City. The incident, which happened around 9:15 a.m. on March 10, was caught on a vehicle’s dashcam.

Footage showed the motorcycle suddenly appearing on the side of the vehicle before crashing into an oncoming jeepney. The rider was thrown off the bike upon impact.

Police Major Marcy Grace Marron, spokesperson for the Baguio City Police Office, said that based on the dashcam footage, the rider attempted to overtake another vehicle.

“Our investigation and the dashcam footage show that the motorcycle rider was overtaking. However, it will be up to the judge to determine liability if a case is filed,” Marron said.

She added that the crash occurred on a curved portion of the road, which is a known accident-prone area.

“The rider overtook on a curve, which is prohibited,” she explained.

The rider, a resident of Barangay Kias, sustained multiple injuries, including fractures, and is under observation at a hospital. Marron also noted that the rider has been experiencing hallucinations.

Authorities are still determining whether the rider will file a case against the 58-year-old jeepney driver or if the matter will be settled privately.

According to police records, this marks the 199th vehicular accident in Baguio City this year.
