A motorcycle rider was declared dead-on-arrival (DOA) moments after he smashed into a 22-wheeler truck Thursday evening along the National Highway in Barangay Poblacion East, San Idelfonso, Ilocos Sur.
Freedom Castañeda, 29, from Barangay Bulala Norte, Vigan City, Ilocos Sur did not reach the hospital alive after he rammed into the truck manuevering towards a gas station driven by Jeanre Sinlao, 42, from Valenzuela City, Metro Manila.
San Idelfonso police investigators claimed that the truck, heading North, stopped to maneuver towards the left side of the highway to fill up fuel when Castañeda aboard a motorcycle hit the right side of the larger vehicle.
Because of the impact, the rider was thrown to the pavement.
Though rushed to the Northside Doctors’ Hospital in Bantay, Ilocos Sur, the motorcycle rider who suffered multiple injuries, was declared dead-on-arrival.
The truck driver was taken into costudy by the San Idelfonso police and authorities had to wait for the decision of the victim’s family if it will lodged charges against him.
The police also bared that the 22-wheeler truck have no courtesy lights on its sides to foreward vehicles especially during the night. They said the trailer is also rusty which is hard to be seen especially at night.
