Some 150 archers are expected to see action in the NCLEX Amplified Archery Funshoot 2023 on July 15 and 16 at the Melvin Jones.
Baguio City National High School archery coach and tournament director John Hongitan the two day event which culminates on the 33rd year of the killer earthquake will draw archers not just from Baguio, Kalinga, but also La Union, Ilocos Sur and Norte and as far as Central Luzon.
In his letter to mayor Benjamin Magalong, Hongitan said that the event is for “the promotion of of Inclusive Archery Education, blending comprehensive approaches to inculcate success in lfe, not only in shooting but attaining objectives in life.”
Hongitan in said letter said the event sponsor, Joshua Miguel Gamus, an archer, “is extremely committed to the development of student athletes and other sports enthusiasts of diverse learners’ capabilities, profession; and including differently-abled individuals’ education by providing hands-on inclusive archery training/workshop.”
The funshoot aims to “to dramatically improve the quality of Inclusive Archery Education (blending able bodied with PWD/Para archers) especially in Baguio City; and other regions,…”
There will be three disciplines in recurve, compound and barebow, Hongitan explained.
There will be 10 categories in recurve, namely: under 10 which has a 10 meter distance; under 13 and under 15 with target faces of 80 degrees and vertical triple face; under 18, 21, 49 para men open and para women open which has an 18 meter distance and all are vertical triple face; and under 15 novice which has a 15 meter distance and 40 centimeter target face; and novice open – 15 meter and 40 centimeter target face.
The compound discipline six categories all at 18 meters and vertical triple face, namely: under 18 men, open men, under 18 women, open women, novice men open and novice women open. The last two, however, have a 40 centimeter single face.
In barebow, there is only the women and men open which has a 40 centimeter single face target face.
There will be 36 gold, silver and bronze medals that are up for grabs.
