NEARLY 200 CAMPAIGN POSTERS, REMOVED BY COMELEC – BAGUIO AS NATIONAL CANDIDATES’ CAMPAIGN PERIOD BEGINS

BY: CHARLES NIKKO LIMON

On February 11, the campaign season for senatorial and party-list candidates officially started.

However, along with it, campaign materials for various candidates began appearing everywhere.

COMELEC immediately responded with a nationwide “Operation Baklas.”

Early in the morning, teams from DPWH, DENR, COMELEC, and the Baguio City Police Office set out to remove illegal posters.

The first to be taken down were posters placed on the bridge in Barangay ABCR.

Although these complied with the correct size requirement, they were posted in a public area.

Next, posters attached to fences and overpasses along Bokawkan Road in Barangay Cresencia Village were removed.

A total of 182 posters from 24 candidates were taken down within an hour.

Most violated regulations by being placed in public spaces, while two posters were removed for being oversized.

Candidates who violate these rules may face election-related offenses.
