Number of Stroke Patients in Bayambang, Pangasinan, reaches 106

The provincial government of Pangasinan expresses concern over the rising number of stroke cases in Bayambang, which has now reached over one hundred six.

In the town of Bayambang alone, the number of recorded stroke patients has reached one hundred and six.

Elevated blood pressure, blood sugar, and cholesterol are identified as the primary causes of these strokes.

According to Dr. RJ Abando, Chief of Clinics at Bayambang District Hospital, changing residents’ lifestyles is the foremost way to prevent strokes.

“If you want to lessen the cause, patient education on disease prevention is key. Because in reality, just because you’ve had a stroke doesn’t mean you’re exempted from having another stroke,” said Dr. RJ Abando, Internist and Chief of Clinics at the Bayambang District Hospital.

Those frequently exposed to sunlight and who consume fatty and salty foods are commonly affected by strokes.

He added, “So, for example, farmers, they’re exposed to heat. They wake up early. It’s good for the body to exercise, but it’s not good to overwork. It’s also good to walk around, work physically, but if you work under the sun which they used to ignore, now, working under the scorching sun.”

(So, san ba ano, yung mga farmers, mainit. Maagang gigising.

According to him, “Our patients, people experiencing high blood pressure, if they don’t get checked up, if they don’t consult their RHOs, their barangay health workers, they won’t have their BP checked. So, if it’s not checked in the center, their BP might be high. The patient, asymptomatic, feels nothing. Weeks pass, months pass, boom, they have a disease.”

Yung pasyente, asymptomatic, walang nararamdamanan. Lilipas yung Linggo, lilipas yung buwan, boo. May sakit na siya.)

Currently, the construction of new CT scan facilities is underway at Bayambang District Center.

With these facilities, patient condition assessments will be expedited, leading to quicker stroke treatments.

“What’s good here is that the patient comes here, if they need to be admitted, we’ll CT scan for stroke diagnosis, and immediately provide treatment,” he explained.

(Ang maganda doon, si yung pasyente punta dito kung kailangan siya admitted, CT Scan ka namin for stroke na diagnosis kung meron, gagamutin ka na kaagad.)

The Pangasinan Hospital Management System now targets to develop and equip other public hospitals with modern facilities.

Governor Ramon Guico III leads this initiative to deliver quality medical services to Pangasinan residents.
