A passenger of a van sustained injuries after the vehicle collided with an oncoming taxi along Cariño Street in Baguio City on Monday morning, April 21.
The incident was captured on CCTV footage installed by Barangay Rizal Monument.
In the footage, a taxi is seen speeding uphill toward Legarda Road, while a van coming from Kisad Road approaches the intersection.
Moments later, bystanders were observed stopping in reaction to the collision, although the CCTV failed to capture the exact moment of impact.
According to Police Captain Harrison Basinga, assistant chief of the Traffic Enforcement Unit of the Baguio City Police Office, both vehicles were speeding and failed to slow down as they approached a pedestrian lane, an area where city traffic ordinances require vehicles to reduce speed.
“One was coming from Good Taste going up to Legarda. The van came from Kisad going toward City Hall. Both vehicles did not slow down as they approached the yellow box,” said Basinga.
One passenger from the van was rushed to the hospital following the crash.
Authorities have yet to confirm the total number of passengers in each vehicle.
Both drivers were interviewed by the police and are awaiting further developments, including potential settlements and damage assessments.
As of this incident, the Baguio City Police Office has responded to 294 vehicular traffic incidents this year.
