The blaring sirens of fire trucks and volunteers woke the residents of Happy Homes Barangay in Baguio City this morning, December 10.
A fire broke out in a two-story ancestral house around 8:00 in the morning.
According to Mar Sagorsur, witness, “We were having breakfast when someone shouted. I went outside and saw the fire upstairs. It spread quickly because everything was wood.”
According to the BFP, the fire spread rapidly, even reaching an abandoned house nearby.
SFO1 Lloyd Ashley Furigay, PIO, BFP-Baguio, stated, “The house was made of wood, and there were other flammable materials. Everything was wooden.”
The house owner suffered burns on his hands due to the fire. He received first aid and was brought to the hospital.
Paul Christopher Flores, Fire Victim, narrated, “We were taking care of the kids downstairs. I unplugged the blower and replaced it with a charger, but there might have been an issue with the extension cord. My first thought was saving lives. Things can be replaced, but luckily, my kids got out safely.”
His wife remained anxious.
The family salvaged only money and a few gadgets from their burnt home.
“Estimated damage is more or less 324,000 pesos. It may increase or decrease depending on the affidavit. This is still under investigation, and we’re determining the fire’s origin,” Furigay mentioned.
The fire reached the first alarm level before being declared out at 9:25 in the morning.
