Pangasinan — More than 3,000 out-of-school youth in the towns of Mangatarem and Umingan, Pangasinan, are set to benefit from Project Tawiran, a literacy and values formation program led by the First Spouses League of Pangasinan, which continues its rollout across the province, aiming to help young individuals learn how to read and write while giving them renewed hope for education.
Mangatarem recorded the highest number of out-of-school youth in the province, accounting for more than half of the over 8,300 cases from five municipalities and one city, with more than 4,600 coming from the town alone. This situation became the driving force behind the First Spouses League in launching Project Tawiran, which seeks to equip the youth with basic literacy skills and values formation.
Last Saturday, March 21, the Chairperson of the First Spouses League of Pangasinan personally visited Mangatarem to formally begin the program in the area, where around 1,600 youth are expected to benefit. Prior to this, the program had already been launched in Umingan, with 1,700 youth also targeted to receive assistance.
According to First Spouses League of Pangasinan Chairperson Maan Tuazon-Guico, the program is intended for out-of-school youth, emphasizing that education should not only be viewed as a legacy passed on by parents but as a vital foundation for every child’s future.
Meanwhile, Umingan Mayor Chris Evert Tadeo-Leyes emphasized the importance of the initiative, saying that through the support of the Pangasinan provincial government, beneficiaries will learn how to read and write.
At present, the First Spouses League aims to continue visiting other municipalities with high numbers of out-of-school youth to extend the reach of Project Tawiran and provide more young people with opportunities for a better future.
