“They were on the roof, the worst that happened was that three barangays were submerged in water,” said Mayor Amelita Megay Ibasco, Municipality of Bula, Camarines Sur.
The mayor of Bula, Camarines Sur tearfully recounted the calamity that struck their town when Typhoon Kristine hit.
Three of their barangays were flooded, and a series of landslides were recorded.
“My focus is on hunger, as some residents did not go to evacuation centers,” she added.
During an aerial inspection, the town was still largely underwater.
According to the Office of Civil Defense (OCD), 81 people have died, 66 are injured, and 34 are missing.
Meanwhile, over one million families are affected, and 82,000 are in evacuation centers across the country.
Just on October 26, Camarines Sur was among the areas visited by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.
He brought aid for those affected by Typhoon Kristine in the province.
“Some roads and bridges were destroyed, the volume of water brought by the rains is almost double that of Ondoy,” said PBBM.
The President assured full government support for the affected communities.
“We will continue to provide them with food packs until they recover, for the long term, I tasked the DPWH to work on a study for a large control project here,” PBBM added.
Currently, the President is focused on providing aid to those affected by Typhoon Kristine.
