P2.7M cannabis torched along disputed Benguet-Ilocos Sur boundary

Anti-illegal drug operatives uprooted and burned more than P2 million worth of fully grown marijuana and seedlings on several plantations along the disputed boundary of Ilocos Sur and Benguet Wednesday.

Joint Sugpon town police, Ilocos Sur provincial police, Ilocos region police, and Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) Region 1 agents raided a marijuana plantation along the boundaries of Sugpon, La Union and Kibungan, Benguet.

Operatives traveled via vehicles from Vigan City to Barangay Caoayan, Sugpon, then hiked for six hours to reach an area within Barangay Licungan near Sitio Les-eng, Kibungan, Benguet.

Sugpon policemen said they discovered a total of 12,000 fully grown MJ plants and 4,000 marijuana seedlings in seven separate sites.

The estimated total worth of the weed is around P2.7 million.

Yet no cultivators were arrested.

Sugpon police bared the area was also raided before for marijuana.

The police also suspect that the marijuana plants are purposedly being taken cared of after as noticing a water hose used to irrigate the plantations. They also claimed the marijuana seedlings are newly transplanted.
