P40 WAGE HIKE IN CORDILLERA, APPROVED

For nearly 12 years, security guard Jack has managed his family’s needs with his current salary.

But with the rising cost of goods, he’s had to stretch his budget to provide for his two children’s education.

“I try to make it work twice a month, just budgeting,” said Jack Nescobero.

The 40 pesos wage hike approved by the Cordillera Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board feels like an early Christmas gift for Jack.

“It will help with daily needs and allowances,” he added.

Similarly, Johnvert, a 24-year-old salesboy, says the increase, though small, is a big help for employees like him.

Johnvert Fontanilla mentioned, “This will definitely help workers like us, especially those supporting families.”

On December 5, the wage hike was approved under Wage Order No. CAR-23.

Household helpers will also benefit from a 1,100 pesos increase, raising their minimum wage from 4,900 to 6,000 pesos, as outlined in Wage Order No. CAR-DW-06.

Both wage orders will take effect on December 24, 2024, 15 days after publication.

Meanwhile, in the MIMAROPA region, a 35 pesos wage increase has also been approved, raising the minimum wage from 395 to 430 pesos.

Approximately 74,961 minimum wage earners in these two regions will benefit from the wage hike.
