Pacio fights Brooks, 4 other Team Lakay scheduled in ONE’s return to Manila

Four other seasoned Team Lakay fighters including a former champion will be joining ONE strawweight champion Joshua Pacio in his defense of his belt against an abrasive American who have repeatedly called him for a showdown.

In what could be a Team Lakay versus the world in ONE Championship’s return to Manila, after the restrictions of the Covid 19 pandemic where all fights were held in Singapore, four other fighters from the fabled Baguio-Benguet stable are also set to join in the ONE 164: Pacio versus (Jared) Brooks.

The December 3 blockbuster faceoff at the Mall of Asia Arena between Team Lakay’s top fighter, the team’s only remaining world champion, and the brash American who vowed to defeat all Lakay members in his weight category.

The ONE feature will have Danny Kingad facing off with Indian fighter Gurdarshan Mangat, Jeneleyn Olsim facing off with Meng Bo if China, Jeremy Pacatiw squaring off with Tial Thang of Myanmar and former flyweight king Geje Eustaquio against Chinese Hu Yong.

Brooks has already conquered the now recovering Lito Adiwang and has for several times called on the reigning straw weight king for a match, a challenge which Pacio accepted and has been scheduled earlier during the ONE 158 but the American suffered an injury and the fight postponed.

Mangat, meanwhile, has been injured and Kingad has yet to see a replacement fighter.

Kingad was on a six win tear before he faced the now bantamweight king Demetrius Johnson in October 12, 2019 and lost via unanimous decision. He came back with a win in Jan. 30, 2020 over Wei Kie but lost to former bantamweight champion Khairat Akhmetov in December 3 last year.

Former flyweight king Eustaquio returns to the octagon ring nearly 26 months after beating Min Jong Song in October 30, 2020 in ONE Championship Inside the Matrix 3 where he won via unanimous decision.

It was his second straight win after knocking out Toni Tauru in ONE – Master of Fate in Nov. 8, 2019.

The one time movie actor, won the title in June 23, 2018 by beating long time champion Adriano Moraes. It was a belt he held for six months since he fell to the Brazilian in their rematch in ONE – Hero’s Ascent on Jan. 23, 2019.

Eustaquio bounced back in May 17 of that year to beat Kyu Sung Kim via unanimous decision in the ONE – Enter The Dragon, He lost though in his next fight against Yuya Wakamatsu in the One – Dawn of Heroes.

“It’s been a while,” Eustaquio told this writer.

“We will try again,” added Eustaquio, leader of Team Gravity in the ONE Warrior Series, who is now in the full grind after nearly a year of not having a full camp.

Olsim bounced back from a loss to Ritu Phogat in Oct. 29, 2021 in ONE – NextGen with a win over Julie Mezabarba last June 23 via split decision.

Pacatiw, on the other hand, will try to bounce back from a defeat to Fabricio Andrade last February 22 via knockout with a knee to the body. Pigeon Lobien
