The rich traditions of Pangasinan and Yona, Guam, took center stage in a cultural exchange program held at Urduja House, Pangasinan, where officials from both communities gathered to strengthen their ties.

Governor Ramon V. Guico III and Vice Governor Mark Ronald Lambino warmly welcomed Mayor Brian Terlaje and the Yona delegation, emphasizing the importance of cultural connections in governance, arts, and heritage.

“From the moment we arrived, we felt the genuine spirit of friendship that binds our communities together—a spirit that promises future collaboration, growth, and shared success,” Mayor Terlaje said.

The event featured performances from both regions. The Guam-based dance troupe Guma’ Rasan Acho’ Latte proudly showcased the traditional Chamorro dance, representing the history and identity of the Chamorro people.

Meanwhile, the Pangasinan Capitol Dance Group performed the Pasintabi and Pasiwas dances, celebrating the province’s cultural heritage.

Vice Governor Lambino highlighted the significance of cultural exchanges, stating, “Pangasinan is home to several indigenous groups with a rich heritage and culture. We are honored to welcome esteemed guests from Yona, Guam, and share our traditions with them.”

As a symbol of friendship, Governor Guico presented Mayor Terlaje with a book on Pangasinan’s history.

In response, Guico proposed formalizing their partnership through a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) or a sisterhood agreement, opening doors for further collaborations.

Before the program, the Yona delegation toured the Pangasinan Capitol Building, where Mayor Terlaje was impressed by its architectural design. “I felt like I was in the United States. The structure reminds me of historical buildings back home,” he remarked.

The cultural exchange program marks the beginning of a stronger bond between Yona, Guam, and Pangasinan, paving the way for deeper cooperation and more opportunities for both communities.
