A parked vehicle was badly damaged after being caught in a three-vehicle collision along Purok 7, Barangay Irisan, Baguio City on the evening of June 5.
Christopherson Banawag, 52, was shocked when he returned to see their vehicle sandwiched in the crash.
“We just left the car parked to get dinner, then suddenly someone crashed into it,” he said.
According to Banawag, the vehicle that hit theirs was speeding. “People were already signaling the driver to stop because his tires were sparking, but he just kept going until a tire burst and he lost control,” he explained.
His vehicle was one of two that were hit during the incident.
Baguio City Police Public Information Officer PMaj. Marcy Grace Marron said the first vehicle, which came from Parañaque City, reportedly lost control and rammed into the parked cars.
Fortunately, no one was injured in the accident.
However, Banawag said the settlement they initially discussed is now uncertain.
“We can’t contact him anymore. Who are we supposed to run after now?” he said, as they covered the damaged vehicle with a tarp while waiting for the 25-year-old suspect to return.
According to police data, this incident is already the 398th vehicular traffic case in the city this year.
With the rainy season now underway, authorities are urging motorists to be extra cautious.
“It’s slippery now because of the rain,” said jeepney driver Junnel Ventura.
PMaj. Marron added, “We’ve already apprehended nearly 300 violators under the ‘King of the Road’ ordinance, and we’re continuing efforts through Oplan Dribe.”
Drivers are reminded to stay alert and drive safely, especially during wet weather.
