Amid various political and social issues, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has called for unity among Filipinos, emphasizing the importance of peaceful discourse.
For residents like Pablo Abluyen, hearing all sides of an issue is crucial before making any judgment.
“People should let the law take its course. There’s no point in starving yourself on the streets. Let people rally if they want, but do it peacefully,” Abluyen said.
The president’s call for unity comes amid rising tensions between supporters of the administration and those of former President Rodrigo Duterte, who was arrested on March 11 at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport.
During a rally of the Alyansa Para sa Bagong Pilipinas in Sta. Rosa, Laguna, on March 22, President Marcos urged Filipinos to work together.
“Join us in building alliances. Let us unite and work together to improve the lives of Filipinos and fight illegal drugs in the country,” Marcos said in his speech.
He stressed that the country’s challenges can only be addressed through proper law enforcement, effective policymaking, and a focus on employment and livelihood opportunities.
Marcos also reaffirmed the country’s commitment to defending its territorial sovereignty.
“We will fight for our sovereignty, our rights, and the dignity of Filipinos. We will not surrender our land to foreign powers,” he declared.
The administration believes that these steps will lead to a more stable and prosperous Philippines.
