Traditional dances, contests in local games, and more—these are some of the activities usually witnessed during the annual Adivay Festival in the province of Benguet every November.
This year, an additional highlight will be the display of more Micor, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) products from each town in the province.
According to Marie Rose Fongwan Kepes, Benguet Council Member “Since we’re the committee, I said it would be good to come up with something innovative and the new fashion fusion to support livelihood programs.”
President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has also been invited as the guest of honor for the celebration.
Governor Melchor Diclas of Benguet Province, mentioned, “When we invite a guest or speaker, we of course ask for funding from them. Hopefully, if the president can’t attend, the first lady might, which would be great.”
This year, it’s expected that around 30 pigs will be slaughtered for the feast to be shared among all towns in the province.
“Usually, there are donations, but the province typically provides up to 40 pigs, as we distribute them among municipalities because for each town, one isn’t enough, so they usually contribute two or three more,” Diclas added.
Approximately 48 activities are planned for the celebration.
“We also want to mingle or showcase our partners in the large-scale business sector. Many youth are involved, so from kids to adults, there are various activities,” Kepes stated.
180 police officers will be deployed for the month-long celebration.
The festival will start on November 5 and will conclude on December 3 this year.
The theme of the 124th Adivay is “Embracing Our Heritage, Co-Creating a Healthier Benguet.”
