These are the heartfelt messages from children and families of OFWs this holiday season.
In their messages, the longing and love for parents who had to leave for work abroad to fulfill their promise of a better life were evident.
President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. acknowledged the sacrifices of OFWs and their contributions to national development.
This took place during Malacañang’s holiday event for families of overseas Filipino workers.
Pres. Ferdinand Marcos Jr. expressed, “You are proof that Filipinos can compete with the best in the world in talent, intelligence, and skill. Beyond that, the remittances you send back to our country are unmatched contributions.”
According to the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas, personal remittances from OFWs reached 3.34 billion US dollars in September 2024, higher than the 3.23 billion US dollars recorded last year.
OWWA also provided livelihood programs, grocery packs, and 10,000 pesos to beneficiaries.
Five recipients even received homes under the “Pambansang Pabahay para sa Pilipino Program.”
The President hopes for more programs that will improve the lives of OFWs so that, in the future, they won’t have to leave the country for the promise of a better life.
