The Philippines’ new polymer banknote series has been named the “Best New Banknote or Banknote Series” by the International Association of Currency Affairs (IACA), once again putting the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) in the global spotlight.
Launched in December 2024, the First Philippine Polymer Banknote Series (FPPBS) was recognized for its cutting-edge security features including a dynamic value panel, transparent windows, and shadow thread technology, all of which help protect against counterfeiting.
The FPPBS stood out among entries from other countries such as Jamaica and Kazakhstan, thanks to its culturally significant and visually captivating designs.
This is not the first time the country’s polymer notes were recognized internationally. In 2022, the 1,000-peso polymer bill was awarded “Banknote of the Year” by the International Banknote Society.
Now, more than ever, the nation’s efforts to modernize its currency are being noticed, and celebrated, on the world stage.
