PICK-UP, SUV COLLIDE WHILE MAKING U-TURN ON MARCOS HIGHWAY

BY: VANESSA BUGTONG

A pick-up and an SUV collided along Marcos Highway early Tuesday morning after both vehicles attempted to make a U-turn in a no U-turn zone.

Dashcam footage from another vehicle captured the incident at around 7:36 a.m. on March 26.

The footage shows an SUV speeding along the highway before suddenly crashing into a pickup.

According to initial reports, both vehicles were stuck in traffic heading toward the central business district.

In an attempt to take an alternate route, both drivers decided to make a U-turn on a solid yellow lane.

“Originally, the two vehicles, a Toyota Hilux and a Toyota Innova, were headed in the same direction. The Innova made a U-turn toward Kennon Road, while the Hilux was also attempting to turn when the collision happened,” said Police Major James Allen Dogao, chief of the Baguio City Police Traffic Enforcement Unit.

The impact was strong enough to tilt the pickup to its side, scattering broken vehicle parts on the road.

Authorities determined that both drivers were at fault for making an illegal U-turn.

“They made a U-turn on a solid yellow lane, which is prohibited.

Because of this, we issued both drivers a ticket for reckless driving,” Dogao added.

No injuries were reported, and the vehicles were towed to repair shops for assessment.

It remains unclear whether the drivers will file charges against each other or settle the matter privately.

The incident also worsened traffic congestion in the area.

Authorities continue to remind motorists to follow traffic laws to avoid accidents.
