Darwin, a UV Express driver for three years, typically takes home only between 500 pesos to 1,000 pesos a day after paying for gas and his boundary.
Although he earns a decent amount, a significant chunk of his income goes toward fuel expenses.
“This Holy Week, I’ll be working, since the price of oil is going down,” he said. “It’s good news for us drivers.”
According to the Department of Energy, the price of petroleum products will be reduced next week: diesel by 3.40 pesos, gasoline by 3.65 pesos, and kerosene by 3.50 pesos per liter.
Taxi driver Francisco Amando welcomed the news, though he hopes for further reductions.
“It would be great if the price keeps dropping. Thank you for the relief,” he said.
The price drop is attributed to the ongoing tension between the U.S. and China, which has led to a decrease in demand for oil, as well as Saudi Arabia’s official price cut for oil exports to Asia.
