PROCESSING WORKING PERMITS IN BAGUIO CITY, NOW EASIER

BY: VANESSA BUGTONG

Gigi, a baker for years, processes her working permit annually.

However, obtaining it feels like threading a needle due to the numerous documents required.

The main challenge?

The establishments she needs to visit are far apart, making the process even more exhausting.

According to Gigi Queñones, a resident, “I get my health certificate and working permit, as well as my cedula and police clearance, to complete the process. I’m renewing mine. I’m a baker at Good Taste.”

To finish early, she lines up at the City Health Office in the morning.

A one-stop shop has been set up here for permit processing.

“At least everything is here now. No need to go to the city hall, it’s all in one place,” Queñones added.

The same is true for Nanay Edith, who also prefers processing her permit early to avoid the rush in the coming days.

“It’s more convenient now. Last year, it was more tiring, but now it’s easier because everything is streamlined,” said Editha Peralta, a resident.

However, despite the one-stop shop, some still encounter challenges.

For Monica, a 27-year-old applicant, it has taken her two days to process her papers.

“It’s my second attempt because I had trouble with my cedula due to differing addresses,” said Monica Cabanero, an applicant.

“The stool sample took a long time,” said Lyqa Roux, an applicant.

According to Angel Grace Manuel, Administrative Aide VI at the PESO Baguio City, “Our one-stop shop includes the BCPO, the Treasury and Cashier Office, the Health Services Office, and PESO for the final step of the working permit process.”

The PESO office advises applicants, “If you’re a Baguio resident, you can pay for your cedula and police clearance at your barangay. When you come here, you only need to bring your medical results. If not, the City Health Office is open for medicals, and the police station is here too. There’s no issue as long as you’ve paid in your barangay.”

Their one-stop shop will be open until the end of March, the deadline for processing working and mayor’s permits in Baguio City.
