The long-time wish of the Kankanaey indigenous people in Barangay Barlo, Mabini for a better livelihood has finally been fulfilled, thanks to the Pangasinan provincial government and the First Spouses League of Pangasinan (FSLP).

Living in the mountainous areas of Barlo, many Kankanaey residents rely on charcoal-making for their livelihood.

With no sufficient water supply, their daily work remains challenging.

Last Christmas, they requested an alternative livelihood—vegetable farming—which has now become a reality.

Led by FSLP Chairperson Maan Tuazon-Guico, the provincial government delivered essential farming tools and seedlings to the community.

Seventeen rolls of hoses for irrigation, hygiene kits, food packs, cattle, a carriage, a water pump, grass cutters, vegetable seedlings, and farm tools such as shovels, picks, and rice threshers were among the assistance provided.

More than 300 families benefited from the program.

Local leaders expressed their gratitude, emphasizing that beyond material aid, the initiative brings hope and trust in the provincial government’s commitment to inclusive development.

Governor Ramon V. Guico III assured that his administration will continue reaching out to marginalized communities, ensuring that no Pangasinense is left behind.
