Despite his disability, 44-year-old Junnie has proven that perseverance and dedication can lead to success.
Working at a hollow block manufacturing site in Barangay Shilan, Junnie produces up to 300 hollow blocks daily, earning admiration from his employer and the community.
Born with hearing and speech impairments, Junnie has faced discrimination and bullying. However, he never let these challenges hinder him.
His older sister introduced him to hollow block-making, where he gradually mastered the craft and became a valued worker.
Mark Balsina, Junnie’s employer, shared how he has earned the trust of his colleagues and customers. “Sometimes, when customers arrive and we’re out for deliveries, he texts me, and I handle the communication. He finds ways to work around his disability,” Balsina said.
Junnie’s hard work has paid off—he has even managed to purchase his own motorcycle for transportation.
His story serves as an inspiration, proving that determination and skill can overcome any obstacle.
His employer encourages the public to be more inclusive and understanding of people with disabilities, emphasizing that they, too, deserve opportunities to prove their worth in the workforce.
