Rebel support keeps thinning down in Cordillera, police claims

Ten more supporters of CPP-NPA in Apayao, Benguet, and Ifugao have turned their backs agains the rebel movement.

Withdrawing their support to the CPP-NPA, six Militia ng Bayan under the Kilusang Larangang Guerilla (KLG) operating in Cagayan and Apayao voluntarily surrendered to the Apayao cops, claimed Cordillera police director Brig. General Ronald Lee on Thursday afternoon. A 51 and 58-year-old couple from Sta. Marcela and four from Luna; a 58 years old male; another 59 years old male; a 48 years old female; and another 53 years old female composed the group.

In Benguet, three Militia ng Bayan members from KLG-North Abra swore down their support from the NPA. They are: a 58-year-old male and 54-year-old femal; and a 38-year-old male from Mountain Province.

While a 56-year-old former supporter of KLG- Ifugao surrendered along with subversive documents, assorted clothes, and medical kits.

Lee said a series of negotiations initiated by joint operatives of the Cordillera police and military with the help of barangay officials and their families spellled the success of the surrender of 10 rebel supporters, thus thinning further rebel support in the highland region.
